Unrequited Love

-CHAPTER TEN-

-Syaoran's Place, next morning-

He was staring at the ceiling blankly, still in bed. He slowly rolled his eyes over to his new overhead clock hanging on the wall. It read 5:30. He only slept for about 3 hours since he got back to his house. A motherly lecture still awaited him in a few hours before he was set off to the hospital, skipping school to see Sakura. He wasn't sure about what the others would do but he didn't care at the moment.

Moony was there too, his fur reflection off some of teh moonlight coming through the window.

Syaoran sighed sitting up on his bed as the dog leaped onto the sheets.

"Things have been crazy lately... hasn't it?" he said quietly. The dog laid down on its belly and put its head on his leg. He rubbed his head affectionately. "You don't have to really worry about this stuff," he sighed with a weak smile.

'I hope she's alright...' he thought as he leaned back into his bed and drifted into sleep.

-Several Hours later, downstairs-

He was now fully dressed with an exhausted expression on his face. He walked down the stairs, smiling greeting the maids and butlers as well as Wei as he came down.

"Master Li, the mistress wishes to see you in the kitchen," Wei gestured towards the door across the living room.

"Okay, thanks."

He sighed and entered teh kitchen and spots his mother sitting all the way on teh other end of teh table, which was about 6 meters long.

"You wanted to see me?" he asked taking a seat opposite of her.

She blinked slowly and put down her cup of tea. "Yes I did."

"Well then... I'm listening," Syaoran said dully.

"It seems you... came home late last night."

"...that's right..."

"Well, you know the rules of this household. You are to be punished isolated in your room each day for every hour you were not here," she said sternly. "Which time were you supposed to be home was 9PM sharp. You returned around 1AM so you will be in your room before and after school until the weekend.

Syaoran slammed his hands against teh table in fury snapping up from his seat.

"How the hell can you punish me at a time like this!? There was an emergency yesterday! My friend was involved in an accident!"

"Watch your tongue young man," she said calmly. "As much as I feel pity on your friend, you will follow the rules, like it or not."

He gritted his teeth. 'First Sakura and now this. What the hell is my life coming to!?' he thought angrily. "I never liked these rules. I just followed them because of Father!" he outbursted. "You are unbelieveable!" he said and stomped out of the room and past Meiling who looked bewildered.

She walked into the kitchen to find a still woman staring after her son with guilt as a doorslam was heard.

-Outside-

He walked out onto the sidewalk with anger in his eyes. "She has no sympathy for anything or anyone! I can't believe she's my mother!" he growled angrily.

A black car drove up beside him and the window rolled down. "Hey you!"

He stopped and turned his head to see Touya staring back at him. "Oh, hi."

"C'mon, I'll give you a ride to school... uh, where's your stuff?" he said.

"I'm not going today. I'm not in the mood. So I'm just going for a visit to the hospital," he said tiredly.

Touya looked uncertainly at him before sighing. "Alright, I'll give you a ride there then. I was just going anyway."

"Oh, thanks!" he said as the passenger seat door swung opened and he climbed in.

-In the Car-

Touya took a few glances at his passenger who was staring out the window looking at the scenery as they drove through the streets.

'I can't tell him about it. She'll have to do it herself,' he thought sadly. He cleared his throat. "You shouldn't be skipping school to see my sister you know."

"I think I find the situation worth the risk," he said.

"What about your parents?"

"My father is dead. My mother, at the moment, I don't want to talk about."

"...I see," Touya replied taking a turn towards the hospital's parking lot. They got out of the car and walked towards the entrance and not surprisingly finding Tomoyo and Eriol there. Meiling wasn't anywhere in sight.

"Syaoran? Where's Meiling?" Tomoyo asked looking around him.

"Back at the house. I don't know if she's coming or not," he shrugged. They all went inside and up the stairs. "So where is her room?"

"In 319," Touya grunted.

They reached teh third floor which was quite silent. Like on of those horror films in haunted houses. But the only difference was the lighting from the windows made it seem less creepy. Touya hesitantly opened teh door and the beeping machines could be heard.

Sakura was lying in bed with her eyes closed under the breather. Syaoran frowned. "Didn't you tell us she was alright yesterday?"

"It's what the doctor said. But she didn't wake up yet," Eriol concluded.

He sighed taking a seat next to her bed. Touya sighed as the doctor came in.

"Ah, I see there are visitors for Ms Kinomoto early in the morning," Rondart stated.

"So how is she?" Tomoyo asked before any else could say anything.

"She'll be fine. I suppose she's just a bit battered in the mind at the time being. You'll just have to wait until she awakens," he sighed. "Isn't it a school day?" he asked looking at the teens.

'Geez, everyone keeps asking...,' Syaoran groaned. "I just wanted to see her."

"Us too, of course. But we just wanted to check by and then leave," Eriol said. "Syaoran, you coming?"

Touya coughed. He sighed. "Oh alright, I'll go," he said in annoyance and winced.

"Hm? Oh yes you need to change those bandages," the doctor said. "Sit down for a moment."

SYaoran unwrapped the bandages and revealed a... disturbing infection.

"Y'know... that is really gross," Tomoyo said.

"No one told you to look!" he defended. "Now get going!"

They laughed lightening up the mood a little and waited outside. Once outside Tomoyo then sighed.

"What's wrong?" Eriol asked worriedly. "The doctor said she'd be okay..."

"It's not that... she told me and Meiling something before she got into that accident. And now I'm worried about her health after this...," she said sadly with tears threatening to spill.

Eriol looked at her confused, "What do you mean? Is there something I should know?"

Tomoyo looked up at his face. "If I tell you, you can't EVER tell Syaoran. I'm serious," she said.

He nodded uncertainly. "Alright, I won't. So what is it?" She pulled him towards the seats away from the door and hesitantly told him everything. By the time she was done, Eriol didn't say anything. But his mouth was hanging open with wide eyes.

"Oh God," was all he said before the door opened with Syaoran coming out.

"Hey guys, what're you two doing? We're already late as it is!" he urged. They both quickly gave him a smile as if nothing was wrong and nodded, walking with him.

On the way out Meiling was just coming through with a frown on her face. "Syaoran?"

"What?" he said.

"You know what your mother is going to do with you when you get home right?" she said with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes I do but I don't care. I'm not going home," he said as they continued walking.

"Huh?" Eriol and Tomoyo were confused.

"Wait up!" Meiling called after.

-Present Time, Lunch Hour-

"Okay... so you basically just fought with your mother?" Eriol asked amused. Tomoyo slapped him on teh arm. "What?"

"You sound like you don't care!" she scolded and turned to Syaoran who was, meanwhile, yawning. "What are you going to do then? You can't just NOT go home."

"No, her reasons and views of the world are quite different than mine. I don't want to listen to her anymore," he snapped.

"Okay, so you just wanted to see Sakura and the result was... that," Eriol said taking a bite of his sandwich.

"Exactly," he sighed.

"Man, you ARE crazy. But seriously, you should just go back and talk to her... peacefully. You know you'll have to go back to get your stuff anyway."

Syaoran grinned with his hand on his chin for a moment. Meiling stared back and forth.

"Good point. I guess I'll be staying at your place!" he said with a laugh slapping him on the shoulder.

"WHAT!?" they all shouted. Syaoran looked back at them.

"What 'what'?"

-The Hospital-

Touya caressed Sakura's hand.

"Do you want to know something about that friend of yours?" he asked, knwoing there wouldn't be a reply.

"What do you think of him? That Syaoran kid?"

All he heard was her slow breathing through the mask.

"He really likes you, you know... isn't it funny though? He hasn't known you for that long..."

He paused for a moment. "Maybe mom and dad are watching you... wanting you to be happy... I do too... maybe that's why he's here... saying how much he likes you... heck, he even asked me if it was alright to be with you," he laughed with a sob.

"So wake up... talk to him... get to know him... maybe you'll finally find someone you love... before it's too late... I don't want you to leave without loving someone..." he cried silently. "I only want you to be happy... and then I'll be happy... and our parents too."

He held her hand giving it a light grasp and stared at her slightly moving fingers. "Sakura?"

Her eyes opened slowly. Vision blurred, she looked around the room wincing at teh brightly shown window.

"Sakura!"

She turned her head slightly, looking at her brother. "Touya?"

He laughed between sobs and then lifted her and hugged her tightly. "I'm glad you're okay..."

"T-Touya.... I'm glad too but..."

"But what?"

"C-Can't breathe..." he quickly let go with worry on his face.

"Sorry! Are you alright? Is there anything I can get you?" he asked in a rush.

She slowly lifted her hand and took off the mask. "I'm okay, maybe a cup of water..." she said, her voice raspy.

Touya nodded and then pressed the red button behind her on the wall. The doctor came in several minutes later.

"What is it?"

"Um... hi?" Sakura said uncertainly.

"Oh, you're awake! Good, you've had your brother and your friends quite worried," he said taking a clipboard from the edge of the bed. "Time to check if you're alright for one last time. You'll still have to stay until we get everything checked and cleared."

"Okay," she replied with a weak smile. Touya got up from his seat.

"I'll be right back. I need to get a drink too so I'll come back with the water, alright?" he said and she nodded.

Once he was out the door, he took out his phone. 'He'll want to know...,' he sighed and began dialing the numbers.

-After School-

"Are you serious or what?" Eriol asked as he, Tomoyo and Meiling walked with Syaoran.

"I'm serious. I'll just stay at your place until I--" he was cut off by a ring tone coming from his pocket. He took it out and answered it. "Hello?"

"..."

"She did!? Alright, I'll be there in a few minutes!" he said with a bright face once he got off the phone and started running ahead of everyone.

"HEY! COME BACK HERE! WE WEREN'T DONE TALKING WITH YOU!!!"

"TALK LATER! SAKURA'S AWAKE!" he called back leaving them with dropped jaws.

"She is?" they all chorused.
